In my case I had to copy the 3.5 GB of a single file (Site Collection backup, .bat) form HOST-Win 7 to My VM-Win2003 opened with windows virtual pc of Win 7, It was taking more than 3 hrs to make a little progress. I tried all different network setting but non of them paned out in my case.
Prior to using win7 virtual pc I used to use the MS Virtual PC software for opening VMs and I was able to copy with out any issues hence I opened my VM-Win Server 2003 with Virtual PC 2007 and set the VM network adapter setting to use the "SHARED NETWORK" and it copied with out any issues and it went well though it took hours (I didn't monitored can guess in between 4 to 7hrs) but it was making progress while copying.
Note: Even copy directly from DVD/CD drive is very faster than drive/sharefolder copy, this speed is equivalent as regular file copy in the host environment.
