The last task that you will perform is modifying the edit and display forms used by the New Toy Ideas list. SharePoint 2010 allows forms to be easily customized by Information Workers using InfoPath.

1. In SharePoint Designer 2010, navigate to the list overview page for the New Toy Ideas list by selecting the Lists and Libraries choice in the Site Objects List box (on the left side of the screen). Next select the New Toy Ideas hyperlink located under the Lists heading on the center of the screen.
2. On the ribbon, in List Settings tab, expand Design Forms in InfoPath and choose Item. InfoPath will open with a generated form.
3. Modify the labels to display descriptive texts instead of just the field name. You will do this by replacing the existing labels (on the left side of the list below) with the text on the right side (after the colon).

Due to popular demand I’ve created another sample of how you can make use of the jQuery Javascript library in your SharePoint sites. This example uses SharePoint’s Lists.asmx web service to retrieve all the list items of a specific list. In my previous posts I showed how you could use jQuery in SharePoint Site Pages (regular .aspx pages uploaded to a Document Library), so let’s do something different now; let’s use jQuery in a plain Content Editor Web Part.

To try this sample navigate to the home page (usually /default.aspx) of a SharePoint site that has a list with some list items in it, in my code I’ll use the Task list of a plain vanilla Team Site. Switch the page to Edit mode (Site Actions, Edit Page), and add a new instance of the Content Editor Web Part to the page. In the properties of that web part, copy and paste the following code using the Source Editor button.

To use Query Tool, do the following:
1. Query Tool uses ODBC to interact with databases, so an ODBC Data Source must be present before you can proceed (see the earlier instructions).

Open Text: Livelink - Liveink 9.5 Versus Sharepoint 2003/2007: "I have been working apace and things were going on smoothly on Livelink. It is being used by nearly 2000 users with 1000 users very active and around close to 400 gb EFS. LL is in a clustered environment with worldwide users and we use other stuff such as Workflows, Custom OScript modules, etc.

Then suddenly, they bought a VP and now he wants to evaluate Sharepoint versus Livelink. - talk about the mr.softee lobby in my offce :(

As these discussions have started, I am wondering what is the experience of the members here who have seen and worked in Sharepoint (say 2003 or 2007). Some points I would like to know are,
1. Scalibility
2. Speed of document management, workflows, custom modules (I guess .net is the underlying code for custom modules), etc
3. Maintenance (how easy it is compared to say Livelink administration) of admin pages, user administration, etc.
4. Any good books or online resource I can tap to jumpstart my understanding of Sharepoint. I have already downloaded Sharepoint and dabbling with it.

I guess mr.softee has not lost to anybody (except perhaps google) and my office will be no exception and so preparing for it :)

As a product OpenText has very friendly ties with Sharepoint.Having said that both have their place in the universe.The GUI part of sharepoint is very appealing and more freindly to use .In fact the RM part of sharepont is running livelink as the backend for most part,they will work with Documentum as well.Sharepoint strategy is the collaboration workspace and the product will support genric use according to MS.If a product can do 90 % of what people want they will make a prouct like that.It is the 10 % difference that allows products like OT and DCTM have a menaingful place.

Things that are severely limited in sharepoint and these are based on my exposure to these products
1)Uptill now SP does not have an EFS option so it is blob storage in SQLserver so go figure.Both DCTM and OT has had EFS at some point.
2)SP seems to be designed by web developers whereas both DCTM and OT seems to have been developed by Document Mnagement systems people.
3)Search is far very superior in LL than in SP or DCTM.
4)The workflow product is much more easy to work with in LL than in SAP,SP or DCTM.
5)OT always seems to be listening to customers many of the things people have asked is part of core product now.
6)Scalability is most often the employement of hardware resources so we can't jsu say LL is more scalable than SP or vice versa.Both needs to be looked at some basic criteria to judge,TPs and such like.
7)LL upgardes are musch easier to do provided you know what you are doing.I have not been part of a SP upgarde so really don't know.

LL favours to be retired by SP(I have been part of several of those) because managment tends to think SP is free.OT's pricing always shows hard dollars for licensing et al so on a powerpoint or excel OT always seems costlier than SP.Nothing is more far from the truth as these organizations will soon find out.Many of them reverse their decisions also.In most orgs Sp will exist(that is a win for managment and LL will co-exist as the real brains of SP.

I put Jent's suggetion in, it did not work.
I also has Overwrite='TRUE' and it did not work.
Then I went to web UI and I was able to activate the feature from the web UI.
Very strange problem."

Note: I was also able to activate using the web UI really strange, I did not try either STSADM / Powershell to active this feature this may also fix the issue.

This post is about a quirk regarding setting a custom edit form for a content type in a document library. There was a great post by Ton Stegeman /tonstegeman/archive/2006/10/29/15374.aspx regarding creating custom edit forms for Sharepoint content types. Once you had created your edit form and deployed to the layouts directory you had to set the “EditFormUrl” property of the content type. This works great. Unfortunately, I had a requirement where the client wanted to turn this custom edit form on and off. For example, from a configuration page the customer would choose a content type associated with a document library and then check a check box to enable the custom edit form, or uncheck it to disable the custom edit form and go back to the default. I thought you could just set the “EditFormUrl” property to an empty string or null and then update the content type and the document library. However, after doing this the “EditFormUrl” property was still set to my custom edit form. When developing on SharePoint you tend to feel like Thomas Edison. You know 10,000 ways something does not work. So after much experimentation I was able to get the “EditFormUrl"

Programmatically working with SharePoint list choice fields

Programetically or during the runtime I've to update the SPChoiceField of the custom list which has a field="FixedAsset Radio Button" choices valuse with Yes, No and Unsure. I've build the custom .aspx page to update the list item values, the following code updated the choice field values

Upgrade / Migrate Wss v3 to SFS 2010: "Hello All,
We are in the process of setting up a new sharepoint foundation server 2010 on a Windows server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008.
We installed SFS 2010 and configured SFS 2010 successfully.
On Wss v3, we are using some application templates which Microsoft provided.
Using Attach (addcontentdb), we are trying to upgrade the database and after hitting 35% the upgrade fails because of application templates.
Can anyone suggest what to do? Can I install the application templates for WSS v3 on SFS 2010?
